Westwood Catholic offers Faith Formation for students in Pre-K through 10th Grade. This year we will continue to offer both in-person classes as well as the homeschool remote option. We are planning to celebrate the Sacraments of First Reconciliation on January 27, 2023, and the snow date is February 3, 2023. First Eucharist will be celebrated on May 13, 2023, and Bishop Uglietto will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on June 10, 2023. For more information on class days and times, please refer to our registration page.
Registration for the 2022-2023 year is now open. We are happy to announce that we are returning to in-person classes at St. Margaret Mary in the lower church. If you have any questions, please contact Karlene Duffy at [email protected]
Preparation for Confirmation is a 10-year program. Catholic school students, who receive theology on a regular basis, join us in the second half of 10th grade and should register.
Our youth minister, Ms. Karlene Duffy, schedules a number of activities for our Middle School and High School students during the course of the year.
First Communion Students are catechized and prepared to receive the Body and the Blood of Our Savior, Jesus Christ throughout their first and second years of Religious Education. The reception of Holy Eucharist takes place in the spring of their 2nd (or third) year of formal Religious Education. As part of their preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist, they prepare for and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the first half of their 2nd year of their formal Religious Education.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession is available on Wednesday evenings from 7-8 PM at St. Margaret Mary Parish and on Saturdays 3:30-4 pm at St. Denis Parish. Of course, the sacrament may be celebrated at any time. Just approach any of the priests and they will be glad to help or call the office to make an appointment.
Confirmation Preparation in our parish is a ten-year program. Students attending Catholic schools are assimilated into our program after February vacation of the 9th and 10th grades. Confirmation Preparation includes attendance and participation in all Religious Education classes and meetings, community worship, 15 hours of community service (for each of the last two years of their formal Rel. Education - Gr. 9 & 10), selecting a sponsor, choosing a Confirmation name, participation in a Confirmation retreat, the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, participation in the rehearsal for the Rite of Confirmation, participation in the Confirmation liturgy, and an interview with our pastor. Confirmation must not be seen as an end of our Religious Education; rather, it requires continued involvement in the life of our Church and our parish. High school students already confirmed are invited to monthly gatherings to further develop their relationships with Our Lord. These gatherings are informal and include a light meal. Times and dates are included in our parish's weekly bulletin. High School students already confirmed are also welcome to participate in any/all of our service projects and service weeks as well as to discern a ministerial role in our parish. |
